Song

Gwendolyn Bennett says a great deal about the times and its music with this poem that is devoted to describing song and its impact on African-American and their personal experience in the UNited States. The music in this case is an expression of one's race and in many ways a celebration of surviving struggle. It is her song but is also echoed in the songs of others that have felt was she is writing of. There is a racial voice that is being evoked in the poem and through her song.
